The surroundings of the Wakefield Mill are changing according to the seasons and if you visit us a few times in a year, you will be able to see the landscape transforms itself from a bloom to a beautiful white canvas.
Did you know that Gatineau Park has one of the largest Cross-Country Skiing trail networks in North America? Take advantage of its 200 km of groomed trails!
The Gatineau Park is the perfect place to experience nature at its best and enjoy a variety of activities all year long : go cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or fat biking during winter and go hiking, forest bathing, cycling and swimming during warmer seasons. From the Mill, take the P17 entrance and get the chance to begin your adventure in the park!
Forest Therapy
Have you ever heard of Forest Bathing? It is kind of a therapeutic activity, and it helps you connect with nature. Take a long walk into the woods and soak up all your senses! More info on the practice.

A transportation from the Wakefield Mill is available with the "Gatineau Park Nocturnal Snowshoeing Adventure & Dinner” in winter and “Kayak & Summit Tour” in summer. For other tours, select the pick-up/drop off location of your choice. Please note that the nearest location from the Mill is the Hilton Lac-Leamy (20 min drive from the Mill).

Aventure Outaouais
Summer reopening on May 18.
For a special activity, explore Éco-Odyssée, a water labyrinth near the Mill where you can do kayak, paddle board, pedal boat or canoe during the hot season and ice skating during the cold season . Various adventures and packages are available to discover this one of a kind natural maze!

The village of Wakefield is unique and charming. There is a lot of local shops and boutiques to discover. Get the chance to stroll in the forest or near the river for a need of fresh air or visit the local streets for a touch of history.

There is many local shops, boutiques and history places to visit when you come to Wakefield. To mention a few of them; Wakefield’s General Store, Jamboree Boutique, Expedition Wakefield and the Confiserie de Wakefield.

During the day if you crave a good coffee or croissant, you will have the choice; Wakefield Bakery and Bluebarn Coffee Roasters. Nothing is better to complete a nice shopping spree!
Historic Walks
Take a step into the past by walking across the Wakefield Mill’s site or in its village ! Many old buildings, houses, bridges, shops and sites are renowned for their past and are interesting to visit. Take a long walk to discover their story and look for some vintage pieces coming from the 1800s ! Access to the renowned Fairbairn House by taking a 12 minute walk from the Mill and take the Wakefield Covered Bridge. Once arrived, a self-guided tour is offered to enjoy and follow the historic journey of the site. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the MacLaren Cemetery where you can enjoy a beautiful overview on the village. Continue your walk and take one of the three trails entering the forest.
Indoor Activities
Indoor activities like indoor climbing are also possible if the forecast is not good and the best place to do so is Klimat indoor climbing gym. The Wakefield cinema is also a nice place to visit while the weather is difficult.

When you visit the main building of the Mill, you can see a few of our art pieces are exposed on the walls. The purpose is to create a charming and creative ambiance that will let you inspired. All of our pieces are for sale and you can buy them easily via our online art gallery.

When you visit Wakefield it is possible to do the Wakefield Art Tour which is offering a tour of the art studios over two weekend in the year to make you discover many great independent local artists in their respective environment. There is also three local art galleries to visit; Farrellton Artist Space, McKenzie Marcotte & Wakefield Artisans Galerie.

Seasonal Experiences
All year long you will be pleased to appreciate the region, especially the nature in Wakefield. Of course Gatineau Park will amaze you with all its hiking trails (183 km) but you will have a choice of outdoor activities since the territory is rich in different landscapes.
For mountain bike lovers, Vorlage Center is the place to be! Formerly named Ski Vorlage, it now offers mountain bike, fat bike, alpine hiking trails and lift access! Get your pass here.
Camp Fortune - Zip lining, Mountain coaster and Mountain Biking only 20 minutes from the hotel. The Gatineau Park trails and beaches are also near the Hotel (P17) so you can do activities like Fatbike, cycling, hiking, picnicking, kayaking, swimming etc.
Located not far away from the Mill, Expedition Wakefield is the ideal place to rent watercraft or bikes.
Get a preferred rate on your renting by telling them you are staying at the Mill.
For the most adventurous, try out a bungee ride at Great Canadian Bungee!
Finally, for horse lovers, visit Captiva Farms that offers epic horseback trail riding in the wondrous Gatineau hills (only 15 minutes drive from the Mill).

For Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding, there is great places to go in the Gatineau mountains like Ski Vorlage or Sommet Edelweiss (with Tubing Park). For Fat Bike and Snowshoeing lovers, Expedition Wakefield is the ideal place to rent your material!
For ice skating, snowshoeing and hiking, head to Patinage en forêt, the only ice trail in Outaouais, located at Lac-des-Loups, a 20-min drive from the Mill!
Golf Experiences
If you are a golf enthusiast and would like to discover the Outaouais region, more specifically La Pêche, Wakefield and Chelsea, this is a must! Between Gatineau and La Pêche, three renowned golf courses are within your reach.
Golf Mont Cascades
Open since 41 years, Golf Mont Cascades is a 18 holes course with a wonderful view on the Gatineau Hills & Gatineau River. The ideal place to enjoy a game on the countryside!
Golf Edelweiss
On the other side of Gatineau River, there is a ski mountain named Sommet Edelweiss and at the edge of this great mount, you can find the Golf Edelweiss.
