Meet Maxime Gratton, Line Cook
How long have you been working with us?
I have been working at the Mill for 11 years!
Why did you choose to work at the Wakefield Mill?
My father was already working at the Mill, and turns out the kitchen needed a dishwasher for a weekend. So he volunteered me when I was 13 years old. They needed me to help out for a few more weekends, and I've been there ever since. 2 years later, I started to work in the kitchen!
What do you enjoy most about your work?
It's close to home and I like the people I work with. Old team members or new comers, they're always pleasant to be around!
What is your favorite task?
I don't have one in particular, we share the different tasks everyday. But when it comes to get creative with the platting for the discovery menu, it's really nice.
What is the essential quality to do your job?
Patience, and not being afraid to let go and get crazy even if you're at work.
What is your best memory at the Wakefield Mill ?
When I was promoted to the kitchen, it was the first thing I'd ever achieved in my life. It was a really encouraging!
An anecdote to share ?
Last year, we were planning a wedding in a reception room near the kitchen, during a heavy thunderstorm. I went out of the reception room to go back in the kitchen, but you have to walk about 4 steps outside to get there. Suddenly, lightning struck right behind me, I felt the hair on my arms stand up, it was a real shock!
What do you enjoy the most of the region ?
Trying out restaurants in the area, many of them are very good!
Why would you recommend the Wakefield Mill for work and/or sightseeing?
For the team and the workplace. It's very close to the city and the countryside, so it's a nice atmosphere.
