The Wakefield Mill Hotel & Spa is ideally located in the splendid Gatineau Park, only 10 minutes from Gatineau and 20 minutes from Ottawa by auto route 5. The hotel boasts 42 beautiful and tranquil rooms, 2 dining options, our “Eau Vive” SPA as well as multiple meeting spaces and banquet halls.


  • Reporting directly to the Executive Chef, the Sous-Chef :
  • Participates in the Management and supervision of the daily kitchen operations, as well as the menu creation
  • Executes the directives from the Executive Chef and in accordance with company standards in order to satisfy and exceed guests needs and expectations
  • Ensures the kitchen operations is safe, clean, efficient and profitable


  • Participates in the creation of dishes and the creative process of menu planning
  • Should plan on spending at least 70% of his/her time cooking
  • Ensures that the quality directives from the company are met and exceeded
  • Coordinates food purchases while considering budgetary restraints, food cost and labor cost
  • Is responsible for periodic inventories as decided by the Executive Chef
  • Supervises, trains and coordinates the staff under his responsibility
  • Responsible for upholding a positive team spirit as well as a creative and clean work environment
  • Ensures good inter departmental communication
  • Will enforce a very high level of cleanliness before, during and after peak hours in the kitchen(s)
  • Overlook scheduling in conjunction with the Executive Chef
  • Any other tasks as deemed necessary by the Executive Chef


  • Secondary education in culinary arts a big plus
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in a similar role
  • Management experience an asset
  • Must possess autonomy, organizational skills and quick execution
  • Leadership and decision making
  • Capable to handle stress and must work well in a fast paced environment
  • Must adapt easily in an ever evolving environment
